I dont know when the first feeling came but I do know that I learnt how to tuck and pleat a sari when I was 12, rummaging through my mothers closet. And you ask a girl who has crossed 20, ready to take the matrimonial plunge and she cant tell a pleat from a pallu! It is a rather scary social situation. More often than not, it is mothers who dissuade their daughters from wearing a sari, telling them that they will look older. Like I often say, there are certain connotations that are associated with a sari like behenji or aunty, and this really bothers me. I see the sari disappearing, bit by bit every day. Its time We Save The Sari.
