Ulfa cadres join ceasefire group

GUWAHATI: Two Ulfa cadres, Gopal Sarma alias Kancha Tamang and Pradip Sarma alias Sarat Gurung, escaped from the outfit’s Myanmar camp recently and are currently taking shelter at the Moran-based designated camp of the ceasefire group. Peacenik Jiten Dutta said on Sunday the duo, hailing from the Disangmukh area in Sivasagar district, were in touch with the ceasefire group for some time and had expressed their desire to join them.

Distribution

KOKRAJHAR: Assam minister for welfare of plains tribes and other backward classes Pramila Rani Brahma distributed 3,100 blankets and 2,080 bundles of yarn to the poor and handloom weavers under the chief minister’s Asom Vikash Yojana for 2009-2010 at a programme held at Kokrajhar Basic Training Centre on Sunday.

Apprehended

NALBARI: Police apprehended two cadres of the pro-talks Ulfa, Bhabesh Mahanta and Nibaron Bora, in connection with an attempted robbery case in the Arikuch area on Saturday night.

Powercut

DIBRUGARH: People in the district were subjected to long hours of powercut as strong winds caused some damage to the electricity distribution system on Sunday.

Teenager dies

DHUBRI: Suleman Hoque,14, of Birsinghpara village in Dhubri died on the spot when lightning struck him on Saturday.
