mphal, Aug. 1: Jai Hind High School, Imphal East, defeated Champ Higher Secondary School, Bishnupur by 3-1 goals to emerge champions in the Under-17 Girls’ State Inter-school Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament played at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium today.
The tournament is being played on a league basis.
The match saw Jai Hind High School reign supreme, collecting 12 points while Charangpat High School came second with nine points. Langing Ninghthou High School collected six points and Champ Higher Secondary School ended with three points. VM High School, Chandel, ended their stint without a win.
By virtue of the win, Jai Hind High School will represent the Manipur girls’ team in the Nehru Hockey Tournament, which will be held in New Delhi later this year.
Undefeated in their run, Jai Hind High School proved too good for Champ Higher Secondary School in their last league match.
With precision strike, the Jai Hind High School girls made their presence felt in the ninth minute of the match as Joymati Devi scored from a field goal for the lead. In the very next minute it was Sunibala Devi’s turn to sully the reputation of the opponents as she consolidated for her team.
Going great guns, the Jai Hind team added insult to injury as Joymati Devi came up with her second goal in the 12th minute to dominate the proceedings with a 3-0 lead in the first half.
Champ Higher Secondary School seemed to work out their strategy in the second half as M. Puspa Devi found the net in the 31st minute, narrowing the margin.
In another match, Charangpat High School, Thoubal, blanked Langjing Ningthou High School, Imphal West, by 3-0 goals.
Charangpat struck in the 16th minute as Chaoba Devi scored a field goal and later it was S. Bindiya Devi who came up with a second, converting a penalty corner in the 18th minute. Chaoba Devi wrapped it up with another goal in the 22nd minute for the rout.
