Imphal, July 28: Home team District Sports Association, Kakching, stunned Imphal West District Football Association by a solitary goal in the 8th Sub-Junior Girls’ Inter-district Football Tournament here today.

The win placed the Kakching girls on top of the tally along with Imphal East District Football Association with four points each. Imphal West District Football Association were placed next in line with three points to their name and one more match to go against the Imphal East district team. DSA, Bishnupur, are yet to open their account.

DSA, Kakching, playing before a home crowd, put up a sterling performance to defeat the mighty Imphal West side with a solitary stunner from Jina Devi in the 24th minute of the match. Though Imphal West team exhausted all their options in the game, effective defence by the Kakching team foiled their advances.

In another match, Imphal East District Football Association blanked DSA Bishnupur by 3-0 goals.

The Imphal East girls had a luckless run in the first half as DSA Bishnupur used all their energy in defending their territory in the first 30 minutes of play. However, in the second half, the Imphal East girls forced their way in and Sanathoi Devi netted the opening goal in the 37th minute for the lead.

Boosted by the success, the Imphal East team further increased their tempo and two minutes later, Nganthoi Devi ruffled the net to make it 2-0 for Imphal East.

The frustrated DSA Bishnupur team was further hammered by the merciless Imphal East forwards. Their repeated and relentless attacks bore fruit with Nganthoi Devi pumping in the final goal in the 46th minute for the 3-0 victory.
