NDFB rebel killed in encounter

Kokrajhar: An NDFB rebel, Jayanta Narzary, 30, was killed in an encounter with security forces at Amteka Chauthang Bazar in Bijni subdivision of Chirang district on Monday morning. Narzary belonged to the Ranjan Daimary-led anti-talks faction of the outfit. A 7.65mm pistol, two magazines and five rounds of live ammunition and several documents were found on the slain militant. The security forces had launched the operation on specific information.

Absu bandh

Kokrajhar: Absu has called for a 12-hour national highway bandh from 6am on Tuesday to pressure the Assam government to solve their various demands, including the early solution of Bodo- medium problem.

Power failure

Dhubri: Dhubri and Bilasipara subdivisions of Dhubri district will have to reel under darkness for five days because of a major fault in the 132KV transmission tower Serfanguri in Kokrajhar district. The fault has also affected Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district. Efforts are on to restore the power supply.

Snatched

Barpeta: Three unidentified armed criminals snatched Rs 1.7 lakh from an LIC agent, Nibaran Talukdar, here on Monday. Talukdar was returning home after withdrawing the sum from two banks.

Undertrial dies

Nagaon: Nihar Bordoloi, 40, an undertrial prisoner, was found dead inside Morigaon district jail on Sunday.
