Two get life for murder
Bhubaneswar:
Two persons were awarded life imprisonment on Tuesday for hacking to death four school students, including three girls, in Deogarh district in 2004. obinda Chandra Panigrahi, the additional district judge of Deogarh, pronounced the sentence to the duo, identified as Shyam Mahanand and Dasarathi Chhanchana.
Tirkey honour
Bhubaneswar:
The Ricoh star of the year award was conferred to former hockey captain Dilip Tirkey on Tuesday. He was given a cash prize of Rs 11,000 and a trophy. The award instituted by the Ricoh India Ltd aims to felicitate those who excelled in the area of sports.
Body found
Bhubaneswar:
Police recovered the body of an unidentified newborn girl from a drain in Unit-IX area of Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. “The infant seemed just one-day old. We found the umbilical cord attached to her body. We are trying to find out if it was a case of female foeticide,” said Satya Mishra, inspector-in-charge of Kharvel Nagar police station.
Tribal meet
Bhubaneswar:
The decision to soon hold a secretary level meeting to formulate a special strategy for tribal development was taken under the chairmanship of chief minster Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday evening. The government has taken a number of steps for the upliftment of the socio-economic condition of the tribals along with building infrastructure support in the remote tribal-dominated districts.
