Beckar books final berth

Imphal, June 29: H. Beckar Singh moved into the final of the under-14 boys in the MANIREDA Open Tennis Championship played at Officers Club, Lamphelpat, today.

Beckar Singh met little resistance in the semi-final from V.L. Channa, as he attacked the latter with some powerful volleys to come up with an 8-3 game victory today.

The other semi-final saw Devasis Singh winning a tough tie against a determined Ginminthang by 7-6 (7-4).

As for the women’s open singles match, Ksh. Yaiphabi Devi defeated H. Nirupama Devi 7-1, and Kh. Suchitra Devi overcame Kh. Linthoi Devi by an identical margin.

In the veteran doubles above-45 encounters, the pair of H. Iboyaima and Y. Ibotombi Singh blanked out Chaoba and Doren Singh 6-0, 6-0, and in another match, H. Digen Singh and Gangte overcame Ranjit and Tomba Singh 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

Udoi causes upset

Twelfth seeded Th. Udoi Singh stunned defending champion Rk. Apollosana in the 15th Y. Nilamani Memorial Open Chess Tournament at Singjamei in Imphal West. Udoi Singh, with the victory, now has two pints in the meet.
