8 rebels arrested

Guwahati, June 26: Eight militants were arrested from different areas of the city today, while security forces gunend down an Ulfa area commander at Udalguri last night. The arrested included four Ulfa rebels, two UNLF militants and two Liberation of Achik Elite Force cadres.

CBI raid

Guwahati: The CBI raided the residence of Karuna Saikia, an executive engineer of the PHE department who is under suspension, at Survey on Saturday in connection with corruption in the NC Hills Autonomous Council.

Award

Guwahati: Kamrup district SP Parthasarthi Mahanta was awarded the GOC-in-C Eastern Command commendation card in Tezpur on Saturday for his part in anti-insurgency operations.

Pilgrim dies

Guwahati: Krishna Majhi of West Bengal’s Hooghly district collapsed and died when he was waiting to enter Kamakhya temple on Saturday.

Remanded

Dhubri: Amjad Hussain, from whose garage Rs 13.45 crore was recovered, has been sent to three-day police custody.
