The sound of music
The lead pair of STAR Jalsha’s mega Gaaner Oparey.

STAR Jalsha unveiled a pair of fresh faces who will lead its upcoming “musical” mega serial Gaaner Oparey — Arjun Chakraborty and Mimi Chakraborty (picture left). Scripted by Rituparno Ghosh and produced by Prosenjit’s Ideas Creation Production, Gaaner Oparey has been conceived to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. The serial features Mimi as Sohini, who learns Rabindrasangeet in the traditional style, and Arjun as Gora, who loves to experiment with Tagore’s tunes. Arjun, actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty’s younger son, and Mimi are both students — he in third-year at St Xavier’s College, she in second-year at Ashutosh College. Gaaner Oparey airs Monday to Saturday at 8.30pm from June 28.

Prosenjit and Rituparno discussed their joint project. “Rituparno has given a shape to the idea that STAR Jalsha had presented to us. After he wrote the script, we realised it was premium property,” said Prosenjit. “The story has a lot of my felt experiences. I am enjoying the writing process. I never felt it was a tiring job, having finished 50 episodes,” said Rituparno
