My Fundays

I remember my childhood very clearly. I studied in the Scottish Orphanage School till I was eight after which I was sent abroad to an international school where I finished my education. Of course I came back for the holidays.

I used to watch only my father’s films if I was watching Hindi films and I just adore him. I wanted to be like him and after watching him beat up everyone in the fight sequences towards the climax of a film, I’d go into the garden and act them out. I was very proud of him. But if in any film anyone got to beat him up I used to get very angry. Once Amjad Khan beat up Dad in a film and the next day I happened to meet him. I was very upset with him.

My sister and I were very close and I’d confide in her. I still do. As a kid I used to wait for Dad to come home from work and then go and hug him and trail behind him. He was not a strict father at all. I don’t remember ever being beaten by him or scolded even. I, in fact, did not even know that my Dad was such a big star because at home he was so simple with us. He used to read to us when we were kids.

I remember a lot of people used to come and stand outside our house everyday to catch a glimpse of him. He used to wave to them, and I used to watch him do this. It happens till today.

I am fond of music and reading though I don’t read fiction much. I must have subconsciously wanted to become an actor. Because as a kid I remember I wanted to become an astronaut.
