Ranchi, June 8: The fate of hundreds of successful plus-II students hangs in the balance with the ongoing non-teaching staff strike derailing the admission process at various colleges under Ranchi University (RU). Only the autonomous colleges have been distributing and accepting forms.
The strike by around 7,500 non-teaching college employees across the state began on April 6. Their demands include implementation of Sixth Pay Commission recommendations and assured career promotion.
Kiran Mehra, admission in-charge of Ranchi Women’s College, said: “The strike has dealt a huge blow to the admission process this year. Almost 20 days have passed since the declaration of matriculation and intermediate results, but till now we have not been able to even distribute the admission forms. Careers of a large number of our students, who want to take admission in our degree courses are in jeopardy. But we are helpless.”
In contrast, the autonomous colleges such as St Xavier’s College are witnessing a huge rush of aspirants. The last date of submitting forms for BA, BSc and BCom at St Xavier’s is June 17. The first list of selected candidates for day section will be declared on June 21 for which the last date of taking admissions is June 26. The second list for day section and the first list for the evening section will be out on June 28, for which the last date of taking admissions is July 5. All classes will begin from July 12.
“All applications are being received online. Students have to log on to www.sxcran.org to fill in their forms. Unlike the degree honours courses where admissions are being taken on merit basis, entrance test will be conducted for degree vocational courses,” said Alok Ranjan, admission in-charge at St Xavier’s College.
