NCP seeks apology for deaths

Shillong, June 2: The Meghalaya unit of the NCP has demanded an apology from PHE minister Prestone Tynonsg for allegedly hiding facts related to the death of three minors on May 19 at Chapahati in the West Garo Hills after drinking contaminated water.

In a statement issued here today, NCP spokesperson James Sangma said Tynsong’s claim in the state Assembly that the minors died after drinking water from four privately constructed ring wells in the village was baseless.

Tynsong was replying to a call attention motion moved by KHNAM legislator Paul Lyngdoh in the Assembly today.

During the Assembly session, Sangma also wanted the minister to give the correct picture, which led to the death of the children.

He later told reporters that a fact-finding delegation led by former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A. Sangma visited Chapahati on May 21.

According to the team, three children died and 205 people were diagnosed with dysentery because of the contaminated water supplied by the PHE department and not after consuming water from the four ring wells in the village.
