Kokrajhar, May 26: The United Democratic Peoples Front (UDPF) has accused police of killing civilians in the name of the NDFB and demanded a judicial inquiry into the May 24 killings at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district by Assam police commandos.
Briefing reporters at Kokrajhar Press Club here today, UDPF spokesperson and BTC member Pradip Kumar Daimary said farmers like George Mushahary, 35, and Mongal Mushahary, 30, residents of Jordanpara under Missamari police station, were killed by Assam police.
George and Mongal were allegedly picked up by Assam police commandos when they were on their way back from Dhekiajuli Bazar on Monday. They were taken to an unknown location and killed. Their bodies were recovered the next morning.
“These are conspiracies to destabilise and annihilate the Bodo people. As part of that conspiracy, Assam police commandos are killing innocent people, later claiming that they were NDFB cadres killed (falsely) in encounters,” he said. “How can every Bodo boy and girl or man and woman be members of the NDFB?”
Daimary said seven innocent people have been killed in false encounters in Dhekiajuli, Gorubandha, Missamari and Rangapara in Sonitpur district in the past two months. He said on Tuesday, another seven were arrested on false charges from the area.
The party demanded the arrest of the guilty policemen and ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the victims’ families.
Sonitpur superintendent of police Jitmol Doley denied the allegations saying not a single innocent civilian was picked up or killed by the police. He said all those killed were militants, who died in encounters with security forces.
