Accident on Howrah bridge
A 22-year-old youth was critically injured when the goods vehicle he was driving collided with a minibus on the Howrah Maidan-Shyambazar route on Howrah bridge late on Sunday. Mehtab Hussain has been admitted to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The minibus driver fled.
Airport arrest
A 46-year-old Bangkok-bound passenger was arrested at Calcutta airport on Sunday in connection with a case in Delhi. Md Shamim, of Delhi, was to take a Thai Airways flight for Bangkok early on Sunday. When he arrived at the immigration counter, officials found there was a look-out notice issued against him by Delhi police.
Biker injured
A motorcyclist was injured and a wireless van damaged in two accidents in the city on Saturday. Motorcyclist Anurup Chatterjee suffered leg and hand injuries when a lorry hit his bike on BT Road on Saturday afternoon. The lorry driver has been arrested. Chatterjee has been admitted to RG Kar hospital. In the other mishap, a goods vehicle dashed a wireless van on Vidyasagar Setu on Saturday afternoon. The driver has been arrested.
Arms haul
Six country-made bombs were found inside the defunct Food Corporation of India godown on Dharmatala Road in Howrah on Saturday. No one has been arrested.
Youth held
Sarfaraj Khan, 24, was arrested from the Prince Dilwar Jha Lane-Garden Reach Road crossing on Saturday for possessing a firearm and a cartridge.
