BRIEFS

Murder

Midnapore, May 16: Suspected Maoists killed a college student in West Midnapore’s Nayagram last night after branding him a police informer.

Paltu Bag was a CPM supporter. The party accused Trinamul of conniving with the Maoists to get him killed because he had bagged a group-D school job ahead of a Trinamul supporter.

Mayor house

Durgapur: Thieves broke into Durgapur mayor Rathin Roy’s house while he was campaigning for the polls elsewhere. Roy had left home for the Left Front campaign while his wife went to stay with their daughter in Calcutta. The theft was detected after neighbours found their door open.

Nanoor toll

Nanoor: The toll in Saturday’s CPM-Trinamul clash in Birbhum’s Nanoor went up on Sunday. A third body was found from a bush.
