Ranjeet ousted

Second seed V.M. Ranjeet was ousted from the $15,000 ONGC ITF Futures being played at the BTA courts. Ranjeet was beaten by Thailand’s Weerapat Doakmaiklee in straight sets 0-6, 2-6. Rest of the seeds sailed into the next round. Local hope and wild card entrant Saurav Sukul was beaten in the first round by Chinese Peng Gao 1-6, 4-6. Karan Rastogi, too, won his match against Christopher Marquis.

Tennis tourney

Three seeds tumbled in the girls’ singles (under-14) on Tuesday in the Sunfeast AITA Talent Series 2010 being played at the Ordnance Club. Fifth seed Priya Ghosh was ousted by Aastha Seth in three sets. Aastha came from one set down to win 3-5, 4-0, 4-1.

Sayani Saha lost to Mehak Sekhani 2-4, 3-5, while eighth seed Adrija Biswas was defeated by Shruti Gupta. In the Sunfeast BTA Ranking tennis tournament, at the same venue, Mohammed Danish defeated the second seed Akshat Agarwal 8-4 in the pre-quarter finals of boys’ singles (under-12).

Dhelia loses

D. Mukhopadhyay defeated A. Dhelia 3-0 in the BRC State Junior Billiards & Snooker Championships 2010. The other winners of the day were A. Awssain, A. Kedia, S. Ali and A. Kariwal.

Table tennis

YMCA beat Chatra Sangha 4-2 in the Rajya Table Tennis Club League at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra on Tuesday. Vivekananda Club, Muslim Institute, Sabeda Bagan Club, Annapurna Byam Samiti, University Institute, Belgharia AC, Narikeldanga SS and Sristi also won their respective matches. Naihati Youth Association got a walkover.
