Sen new chief secy
Calcutta, April 28: Home secretary Ardhendu Sen will be the next chief secretary. He will replace Asok Mohan Chakrabarti, who retires on April 30. Health secretary Samar Ghosh has been appointed the home secretary.
No-trial bail
Calcutta: The high court on Wednesday granted bail to a Nadia farmer, arrested five years ago for his alleged links with Maoists, because his case had not been heard once in the past eight months. Fifty-year-old Bikash Sahas case could not heard in the absence of a judge in the second fast-track court of Krishnagar. The high court criticised the government for not filling up vacant posts in lower courts.
Baby theft
Chinsurah: A six- day-old boy was allegedly stolen from Imambara Hospital in Chinsurah, Hooghly, on Wednesday. The baby was found missing after a middle-aged woman visiting the ward befriended the mother.
