Tata firm to acquire Hewitt Robins

Calcutta, April 16: TRF Ltd, a Tata group company, today said it would acquire UK-based Hewitt Robins International Ltd for £3 million.

The company board has approved the acquisition.

Hewitt Robins is engaged in designing and manufacturing television and mobile screens and products used in quarrying, mining and recycling. It also has interests in iron and steel industries.

TRF Ltd provides solutions for material handling equipment and processing systems required in infrastructure development and automotive applications. Major subsidiaries of the company include York Transport Equipment, Adithya Automotive and Dutch Lanka Trailer Manufacturers.

York Transport Equipment (Asia) Pte Ltd, Singapore, is engaged in the production and distribution of trailer undergears such as axles and suspensions, with presence in 27 countries. York Transport Equipment has three manufacturing facilities worldwide, including one in India.

Adithya Automotive Applications is a TRF joint venture with a plant in Lucknow.

Dutch Lanka Trailer Manufacturers, Sri Lanka, has facilities in Sri Lanka, Oman and India. It exports trailers to 30 countries.

TRF aims to become a Rs 2,500-crore company in the next five years from Rs 500 crore now.

The company intends to focus on material handling and auto applications.

The acquisition, TRF said, will help it to have a meaningful presence in both European and Indian markets.
