A 55-year-old diabetes patient was found hanging from the ceiling of the first-floor bathroom of Raja Rammohan Roy block of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital on Monday morning.

Mithun Saha was admitted to the hospital last Monday with diabetes, breathing problem and heart ailment. Police said Saha, a resident of Deganga, was suffering from depression because of his ailing health. No suicide note was found. The body was sent for post-mortem.

Also on Monday, 45-year-old Rabin Bera of South Baksara in Howrah allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his room.

Police said Bera had been jobless for a long time and had a family to provide for. Preliminary investigation indicated that frustration caused by financial constraints drove him to suicide. The body has been sent for post-mortem. No suicide note was found.
