Students expelled

Shillong, March 5: At least 15 students were expelled from examination halls in West Garo Hills today for resorting to unfair means during the first day of the SSLC examination. The chairman of the Meghalaya Board of School Education, E.P. Kharbhih, said the students were caught by invigilators for malpractices in the examinations, including copying.

Gutted

Dhubri: Property worth Rs 30 lakh was gutted at Majherchar village in Assam’s Dhubri district on Thursday night.

Central aid

Guwahati: The ministry of rural development released grant-in-aid worth Rs 25 crore to Manipur for construction of rural roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana on Friday. The amount has been given from the special window created in National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development under RIDF as grants-in-aid.

Youth dies

Guwahati: Sekhar Goswami, 30, who set himself on fire at Ulubari on March 1 after his girlfriend reportedly turned down his marriage proposal, died of burns at Nemcare Hospital on Thursday night.
