Murder in city flat

Calcutta, Feb. 26: A 58-year-old woman was found dead in her Kankurgachhi flat tonight with her hands and feet tied and mouth gagged.

The family’s domestic help from Bihar was missing along with cash and jewellery.

Sudha Devi Singhania, 58, had failed to answer the door bell when her husband Radhemohan reached home after work around 7.30pm. He fetched a duplicate key from his elder daughter, who lives in another apartment in the same building, Chamaria House. “He found the flat ransacked and his wife lying dead on the floor,” said an officer of Phoolbagan police station.

Police found strangulation marks on Sudha Devi’s throat. They are looking for Rajendra, 20, who had been recruited only 24 days ago.

Radhemohan, a PVC pipe wholesaler, had left for his Strand Road office at 2.30pm.

He has another daughter, who lives in Singapore.
