Examinee commits suicide

Balurghat, Feb. 24: A Madhyamik examinee, a student of Bangshihari High School, committed suicide by hanging at his residence last night.

Parimal Sarkar was upset ever since the Bengali Paper I exam that was held yesterday as he felt that he did not do well, said Bholanath, the father of the 16-year-old and a home guard posted at Bangshihari police station.


Nature camp

Siliguri: The Himalayan Nature and Adventure Foundation will organise its 19th Adventure Trekking-cum-Camping Course at Neora Valley National Park from Thursday. Hnaf secretary Pradip Nag said the 25-member team will return to Siliguri on March 2.


Shop looted

Islampur: Goons looted cash and valuables worth Rs 1 lakh from a shop selling motor parts at Old Bus Stand on Tuesday night. The thieves broke open the tin roof of the shop. Rajiv Agarwal, the shop-owner, has filed a complaint at Islampur police station on Wednesday. No one has been arrested.


Medicinal herb

Jalpaiguri: Bengal horticulture and food processing minister Mohanta Chatterjee said his department has earmarked 1,000 hectares at the Cinchona plantations in Mungpoo in which saplings of Ipicac, a medicinal plant, and oranges would be cultivated. The minister said this after a meeting with officials of Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Cooch Behar at the circuit house here on Wednesday.


Road review

Jalpaiguri: Transport minister Ranjit Kundu reviewed the traffic congestion, road development and the improvement of traffic management system with officials at the circuit house here on Wednesday.


Rebel held

Kokrajhar: An NDFB cadre, Guni Narzary, 24, was apprehended by security forces from Sialmari under Serfanguri police station in Kokrajhar district this evening. A 9mm pistol and ammunition were recovered from him.
