Singreni, South Eastern to lock horns

Ranchi, Feb. 17: It will be a face off between Singreni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) at the final of the 24th Coal India Lawn Tennis tournament at the CMPDIL synthetic court tomorrow.

In the first semi-final today SCCL, Kothaguddam, beat hosts Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL) 2-0. In the first singles match SCCL’s S. Ravi Kumar beat CMPDIL’s H.G. Singha comfortably by 8-1. In the doubles match, the SCCL pair of S. Ravi Kumar and S. Ramesh did not face any resistance from the CMPDIL pair of G.S. Arora and A.D. Jamkar to win the match 8-1.

In the second semi-final, SECL, Bilaspur, beat Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Sambalpur, 2-0. In the singles match, SECL’s Alok Singh beat MCL’s Sujit Mishra 8-6. And in the doubles, the SECL team of N.J. Kumar and T.K. Dasgupta beat MCL’s S.K. Satpathy and S.N. Ghosh 8-5.

In the singles, SECL’s T.K. Dasgupta beat WCL’s N.J. Vaidya 8-3, and in the doubles, the SECL team of N.J. Kumar and Alok Singh beat the WCL pair of P.B. Lakhdev and V.K. Shende 8-2.

Cricket

In the Central Coalfields Limited’s inter-cricket tournament, the CCL headquarters team beat Barkakana area by 135 runs. Batting first the CCL headquarters scored 195 for seven wickets in the stipulated 25 overs because of Avinash Tiwary’s 94 runs from 61 balls.

In reply, the Barkakana team was bowled out for a paltry 61 runs in 15.3 overs with Ravi Parida taking four wickets for 11 runs in four overs.
