Residents’ meet at township
The Salt Lake municipality announced on Wednesday that a residents’ convention would be held on February 26 in the BD hall to discuss the issue of adding a floor to existing houses. The municipality decided to organise the convention after state urban development minister Asok Bhattacharya asked its chairman to hold discussions on the matter before giving residents the green signal to add a floor to their houses.
Illegal pool cars nabbed
The public vehicles department on Tuesday launched a drive against pool cars running without a valid permit and seized 15 vehicles till Wednesday. The government had earlier announced that pool cars older than 15 years or holding a permit issued before 2000 would not be allowed to ply after February 15.
Doctors protest
Around 50 students of Pratap Chandra Memorial Homeopathy Medical College and Hospital in Narkeldanga gathered outside their institute on Wednesday evening to protest a delay in receiving provisional semester certificates and poor internship stipends. The students locked five teachers in the college till late in the evening. The students had earlier held demonstrations demanding a stipend hike, following which the college principal had resigned last month.
Temple theft
Jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh was stolen from a Kali temple in Dum Dum late on Tuesday. Police said the theft was discovered on Wednesday morning when workers found the temple gates open.
Power supply
Power supply may be disrupted on Thursday between 9.30am and 2.30pm in the Tiljala, Sapgachi, Topsia Road, GJ Khan Road, Kustia Road, Picnic Park, Picnic Garden, CN Roy Road, Bediadanga and New Ballygunge areas and between 9am and noon in the Naktala Lane, Baghajatin Colony, Vidyasagar Colony, Baghajatin, Garfa, Garfa Main Road, Prince Anwar Shah Road Connector, Vivek Nagar and Jheel Road areas because of upkeep by CESC.
