Animal world

Here is news to gladden the hearts of all animal lovers. Switzerland is thinking about appointing lawyers in every district who will help prevent animal abuse. The country passed a law last year protecting the rights of pet animals — from guinea pigs to goldfish. Under the new law anyone who wants to keep a dog as a pet will first have to do a two-part course first. Prospective owners will be taught about the needs and wishes of dogs as well as the right way to walk them. If a guinea pig is more your thing, make sure you keep a pair of them. Guinea pigs as well as budgerigars have been classified as social animals and denying such animals a companion or contact with others of their species will be considered abuse. And if you like to fish, you’ll have to clear a course on catching fish humanely before you get a fishing licence!

Dog’s day out

church in the us has taken loving your fellow beings to a new level. The church in Covenant, Westchester, holds a special service for those who cannot bear to leave their dogs at home while attending service. The dogs even get a biscuit for attending. The four-legged attendees are mostly well behaved. If they are not, the minister has found that all the congregation has to do is sing the hymn Amazing Grace for the canines to settle down. Unfortunately, the church isn’t willing to entertain pet cats.
