Laskhar leader brought to city
Amzad Khoja, the alleged head of the “economy wing” set up by the ISI and Lashkar-e-Toiba to distribute fake currency notes in India, was brought to the city from Hyderabad on Monday. Khoja, a Pakistani, was arrested at Hyderabad airport on January 22 after he arrived from Dubai. Several members of the “economy wing” had been arrested in Calcutta over the past year and fake notes worth Rs 62 lakh seized from them, said an officer of Calcutta police.
Woman’s body in sack
The body of an unidentified woman in her 20s was found in a sack in Bangur Avenue on Sunday night. According Lake Town police, residents discovered the sack after dogs started barking near it. There was no injury mark on the body, which has been sent for post-mortem.
Found dead
Pritam Das, 22, was found dead beside Sodepur-Madhyamgram Road at Ghola early on Monday. Pritam, who worked with a catering team and had got married eight months ago, last spoke on his cellphone around 2.45am, after which it was switched off, police said. On Monday morning, local residents spotted the body, which had multiple fractures and cut marks, said an officer. The police suspect that Pritam was hit by a vehicle. A friend of Pritam has been detained.
Howrah girl
Police officers investigating the death of Samata Maloo, the 18-year-old Howrah girl who was found lying on Ganesh Chandra Avenue last week and later declared dead, said she had not attended tuition classes since January 31 and had been depressed. The Class XII girl had left home on Thursday saying she was going for tuitions, said an officer.
DTH channels
Tata Sky Limited, the joint venture between the TATA Group and STAR, announced the inclusion of Bengali channels Sony Aath and 24 Ghanta on its platform. These are among the seven channels recently included by the DTH player. The others are Discovery Turbo, Discovery Science, ET Now, Zee Talkies and 24 Taas.
