Extortion gang injures cattle trader

Jamshedpur, Jan. 31: A gang critically injured a cattle trader while trying to extort money from him at Dhatkidih in the Bistupur police station area last night.

Mohammad Quyamuddin, a resident of Dhatkidih B-block, has been admitted to MGM Medical College and Hospital. A case has been registered against five persons. Four of them are Sarfaraj Quereshi, Jaffer Quereshi, Rizwan Quereshi and Sadab Quereshi.

According to the victim, the men approached him last night and asked him to pay Rs 20,000. When he refused, one of them struck him in the head and leg with a knife and threatened him with dire consequences.

Quyamuddin was rushed to hospital where a police officer came and took his statement. Later this morning, he returned home but the goons appeared once again and asked him to withdraw the case.

Soon after, Quyamuddin approached the Bistupur police station, where he lodged a fresh complaint. By then his condition deteriorated, prompting the police to send him to the hospital again.

Deputy SP (control room) Dinesh Oraon said they had registered a case.
