Held for job fraud
Srijit Das, in his 40s, was arrested in Salt Lakes FD Block on Sunday for allegedly duping a man by promising him a job. Somnath Manna, 30, a resident of Ramrajatala in Howrah, had lodged a police complaint against Das on Friday. A probe revealed that Das, along with a partner, had started a placement firm in FD Block and taken money from people after promising them jobs abroad. Srijit used to run a similar placement firm in New Alipore and had allegedly duped several people there.
Cellphone shop robbed
Cellphones and recharge vouchers worth Rs 50,000 were stolen from a shop in Barasat on Saturday night. Owner Sandip Ghosh discovered the theft on Sunday morning.
Train route
The Howrah-Amritsar Express, which was being short terminated at Mughalsarai because of fog, resumed normal services on Sunday.
Man shot
A 27-year-old real estate broker was shot dead by some youths on a motorcycle in Kakinara on Saturday night. Police said M.V. Bakka, a resident of Natunpalli in the area, was returning home when he was attacked.
