British Council, Scottish Screen and Nandan host Scotland-Kolkata Cuts, a selection of Scottish films by Brian Cox beginning today. Cox, an award-winning actor of the stage, screen and television, will be present on the occasion. A veteran of more than 50 feature films, he appeared in films Red and The Escapist — both official selections at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and released worldwide this year. Today, he will speak at the inaugural ceremony of the festival (at Nandan IV; 5 pm), before the screening of Rob Roy (at Nandan I; 7 pm), a film in which the actor has starred alongside Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange. Cox will address the press on the films he has chosen for the festival. The press conference will also be addressed by Nilanjan Chatterjee, Sujata Sen and Somnath Mukherjee. Besides his appearances at this festival, Cox will also give lecture-demonstrations at Roopkala Kendra and Chalachitra Shatabarsha Bhawan to students of film studies. He is also scheduled to do a drama workshop with students of Jadavpur University’s English department.
