Chocolate & cheers

While Europe may be renowned for its traditions of wine and food, few people in India would be likely to seek out the Luxembourg label. But one company from the tiny nation has come calling to change that perception with a range of wines and chocolate.

“Our wines are slightly fruity and light, and of high quality, comparable to a few Italian and French wines — without the steep prices, of course,” smiled Bernd Karl, technical director, Les Domaines de Vinsmoselle, the leading wine producers of Luxembourg. A wine and chocolate tasting session was held on Wednesday at Hushh to announce the arrival of these new epicurean alternatives. An MoU between Les Domaines de Vinsmoselle and Anmol Vyapar Private Ltd, represented by Rajat Dalmia of Hushh and Kobe Sizzlers, has been signed to make select products available across hotels and restaurants in the city.

Even though it’s a cold country, the relatively warmer air of the Luxembourg-Moselle river valley makes it conducive for growing wine. The brand launched six of its wines including three whites, two sparkling wines and one rose wine. Their speciality is award-winning bottle-fermented sparkling wines, two of which — Cuvee Brut and Cuvee Spirit of Schengen Brut — will be available in the city after April. Their whites — Auxerrois, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer — are also being launched in the city.

There’s happy news for chocoholics as well. Chocolates from a Luxembourg confectionery chain, Oberweis, will also be available. And if the way the cognac truffles disappeared from the trays in a matter of seconds at the tasting session is anything to go by, the chocolates are guaranteed to hit the spot. These are gourmet creations: the tea-flavoured chocolates, for instance, are made by infused cream with tea leaves for 24 hours to get that exact flavour to match the cocoa.
