The Jadavpur University authorities on Wednesday allowed cultural programmes on the campus provided the decibel bar was not violated but students continued their agitation demanding further relaxation of rules.

The university’s executive council, after a meeting on Wednesday afternoon, decided to accept students’ demand for permission to hold fests, freshers’ welcome and other programmes on the campus on the condition that sound pollution norms were adhered to.

Students gheraoed the council members till late on Wednesday to press for permission to use loudspeakers at over 65 decibels, the limit set by the pollution control board, and past 10pm.
