Raman in last 16

Rishabdev Raman defeated fifth-seeded Shahbaaz Khan 7-5, 0-6, 6-2 in the boys’ singles to enter the pre-quarter finals of the ONGC – ITF Junior Tennis being played at DKS Sports Complex.

In the girls’, Delhi’s Shweta Rana made it to the pre-quarter finals defeating seventh seed Ekterina Tour of Israel. Sweta won 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Panel probe

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) appointed four-member panel to probe into the power failure during the India-Sri Lanka ODI on December 24 had their first meeting on Monday.

Alok in

Orissa all-rounder Alok Sahu will replace Niranjan Behera, who is suffering from chicken pox, in the East Zone Duleep Trophy squad. Alok is a right-handed middle order batsman and bowls right-arm medium pace.

Bengal squad

The Cricket Association of Bengal will pick 22 probables for the East Zone Vijay Hazare Trophy on January 28. The squad will then be pruned to 15 by the first week of February.

Pradip wins

Pradip Ghosh, having garnered nine points, won the 45th State Chess Championship on Monday. Joydeb Saha, Debashish Mukherjee and Soumay Banerjee finished joint-second with eight points.
