15 injured in college clash
Fifteen people, including three policemen, were injured in a scuffle among supporters of the SFI and Trinamul Chhatra Parishad at Bhairav Ganguly College on Monday afternoon. Police said the trouble, in which a police vehicle was also damaged, erupted over filing of nominations for the students' union election to be held on January 20. A police picket has been posted on the campus and RAF personnel have been deployed.
Body in field
An unidentified woman in her 30s was found dead in a field near Prasanta Chandra Mahalanabis College in Baranagar on Monday morning. Police said her throat was slit and the body bore cut marks.
Custody
The four persons arrested for allegedly killing Mina Dutta of Jagachha were produced before the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Howrah on Monday. Police said Soma Das, 22, Sathi, 16, Sanjay Das, 26 and Rayaz Ali Mullick, 30, were remanded in police custody for five days. Mina Dutta, who allegedly ran a sleaze racket, was murdered at home on January 5.
Train
A pair of Howrah-Belur Math locals will be introduced on Tuesday to mark Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary. The train will leave Howrah at 4.05pm and reach Belur Math at 4.35pm. It will leave Belur Math at 4.45pm and reach Howrah at 5.10pm.

24 arrested
Twenty four Trinamul Chhatra Parishad supporters were arrested on Monday after they demonstrated in front of Writers’ Buildings to protest police “highhandedness” during college elections.
Youth held
Sanju Roy, 23, who allegedly tried to snatch the necklace of a woman on Maniktala Main Road while riding a bike, was caught by residents on Monday night and handed over to police.
