Ulfa rebels killed in encounter

Guwahati: A team of BSF, CRPF and Assam police shot dead two suspected Ulfa rebels in an encounter at Naokuchi on the outskirts of the city on Sunday. The three-member team of rebels was suspected to be part of a group operating under Ulfa cadres Akash Thapa and Jintu Kalita and to have sneaked into Khetri from Meghalaya. One 9mm pistol, two magazines, three live ammunitions of a 9mm pistol, several empty cartridges and an unexploded grenade were recovered.

Shot

Mangaldoi: Two suspected Adivasi National Liberation Army (ANLA) militants were gunned down in an encounter with the police at Godhabil Charkobasti in Udalguri district on Sunday.

Accidents

Imphal: Three boys died and 16 others were injured in two separate road accidents on Sunday. In the first accident, two teenaged boys died and 16 passengers wounded when a bus overturned in Bishnupur district and in the second accident, a water tanker ran over a boy in Imphal East.

Dismantled

Dhubri: Agomoni police dismantled several last-digit lottery counters on the Agomoni-Kaldoba road on Sunday.

One dead

Guwahati: Mriganka Kumar Bhattacharjee died while Dipanjal Konwar was injured after their motorcycle rammed into a lamppost on GS Road at Christian Basti on Sunday.

Girl missing

Dhubri: Sanowara Khatoon, 18, the daughter of Gendu Sheikh of Kumri village in Dhubri district was reported missing for the past few days. A complaint was lodged at Fakirganj police station on Saturday.
