Youth shot in Howrah
Ananda Reddy, 25, a resident of Howrah’s Golabari, was shot in the head by a local tough on Thursday night and died on Friday morning at SSKM Hospital. Police said Reddy was walking along Ramlal Mukherjee Road with three friends when Lalu Rout allegedly shot him. He was rushed to Howrah District Hospital and later transferred to SSKM Hospital. Lalu is absconding.
Women die of burns
Two homemakers died of burns sustained at their in-laws’ houses on Friday. Santana Bera, 26, who was allegedly set on fire at her in-laws’ house in Baguiati on December 23, died at NRS hospital on Friday morning. Husband Golak Das, a trader, has been arrested. Mita Baruah, 28, a resident of Behala, was admitted to SSKM Hospital on Thursday. She died on Friday afternoon.
Flight delayed
An Air India Express Calcutta-Singapore flight took off four hours late on Friday because of a delay in the arrival of the flight from Dhaka. The Singapore flight was scheduled to take off at 9am. Airline officials said the flight from Dhaka was to arrive at 8.15am but landed in the city at 12.15pm because of poor weather in the Bangladesh capital.
Body found
The body of 35-year-old Pradeep Haldar was found near Nonadanga, off the Bypass, on Friday. The body had no injury marks.
Club on fire
A gang forcibly entered a club in Bijpur, near Barrackpore, and set it ablaze early on Friday. Trinamul leaders said CPM cadres were behind the incident as several members of the club had joined Mamata Banerjee’s party. The CPM denied the allegation.
Mishap
A Bantala youth was killed and two of his friends were injured when the car they were travelling in was hit by a truck in Burdwan’s Goda late on Thursday. Prasanta Mandal, the deceased, was an insurance agent. The injured — Biswanath Mondal and Prabir Mondal — have been admitted to a Baguiati nursing home.
