Bail granted

Silchar, Dec. 25: Former Mizoram home minister P.U. Tawnluia was granted anticipatory bail by the chief judicial magistrate in Aizawl yesterday in a case relating to misappropriation of funds meant for police modernisation schemes. The bail followed the arrest of former DGP Tumsanga and an additional superintendent of police, Tlankunga, on Tuesday.

Rifles found

Nagaon: The army recovered two AK-56 rifles from an abandoned house in Tisson village in Karbi Anglong district on Friday. The rifles belong to KLNLF rebels.

Road mishap

Kokrajhar: Two persons were seriously injured when their bike was hit by a bus at Balajan Tinali here on 12.30pm on Friday.

Bangladeshi

Dhubri: Tara Miah, 35, a Bangladeshi, was apprehended by the 3 Sikh Regiment from Thakuranbari on Thursday. Fake Indian currency was seized from him.

Two held

Dhubri: A member of Tuspara Anchalik Panchayat, Sekander Ali and a village tout, Ali Hussain, were picked up on Friday by Bilasipara police for distributing fake appointment letters to Anganwadi workers.
