US growth at 2.2%
New Delhi, Dec. 22: The US economy grew 2.2 per cent in the third quarter of 2009. The economy was expected to scale up 2.8 per cent in the September quarter. According to the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, growth was mainly on account of increased consumer spending, higher government expenditure and improved residential fixed investments.

New Delhi, Dec. 22: Handsets enabled with 3G technology are now available for less than Rs 5,000. Local firms Karbonn, Olive Telecom and Micromax are looking to enter the market with these sub-5K 3G-enabled handsets.

Calcutta, Dec. 22: The labour department will convene a meeting here tomorrow to end the nine-day-old jute strike by the Bengal Chatkal Majdoor Union and 18 other worker organisations.
Vodafone
New Delhi, Dec. 22: The government has opposed the demerger plan of Vodafone Essar saying the move will result in tax evasion. Vodafone proposed to transfer its tower business to another group company in the form of a gift.

Luanda, Dec. 22: Opec oil producers have agreed to keep their supply curbs unchanged but may face an uphill battle to improve compliance with those restrictions if they want to drain bulging global fuel inventories.
