Student killed in road mishap

Satpal Singh, a Class V student in an English-medium school in Barrackpore, fell while trying to board a private bus and was crushed under its wheels in Sodepur on Monday morning. He was declared dead at Panihati State General Hospital. The boy, the youngest child of a Sodepur trader, was going to school alone. Residents and pedestrians damaged the bus.

Guard found on road

Jadav Das, 25, died after being found lying on the road in front of a building under-construction where he used to work as a security guard at Charu Chandra Place East on Monday morning. There were injuries on the back of his head. He died at MR Bangur Hospital.

Minister visit

Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee addressed senior officials of customs, central excise, service tax and income tax at the new complex of Kendriya Utpad Shulk Bhawan at Shantipally on Sunday. Income tax of Rs 10,578 crore has been collected in the Bengal region till November in the financial year 2009-10. The figure is 8.60 per cent more than that of the corresponding period last year.

Power supply

Power supply may be affected in Sreemohan Lane, Sarat Chatterjee Road, Charu Avenue, Tollygunge Circular Road, Deshapran Sashmal Road and Lake Avenue in Tollygunge between 9am and 1pm on Tuesday because of maintenance work by CESC. Power supply to Padma Ghosh Garden Lane, Chakpara Road, Mirpara Road, Kundan Bye Lane, Shantinagar, Kumarpara, Belur Road, Liluah Station Road, Industrial Trading Corporation, Salkia and parts of Liluah may be affected between 10am and noon for the same reason.
