Tennis meet starts today

Calcutta: The National Grasscourt Championship returns to Calcutta South Club after a gap of one year, from Monday. The Rs 4,50,000 event will witness India’s best in action over the next six days.

Men’s and women’s top seeds, VM Ranjeet and Rushmi Chakravarthi respectively, have received byes in the first round and will begin their campaign later in the week.

Bengal’s Saurav Panja and Saurav Sukul will be seen in action on Monday as they take on each other in a men’s first-round encounter.

The only other Bengal boy in the main draw is Manoj Kumar Sewa, who plays a lucky loser Monday.

In the women’s side, Bengal’s Shivika Burman, Treta Bhattacharyya and Andrita Deb will be seen in action.
