Cellphone shop burgled

Cash and cellphones worth Rs 1.5 lakh were stolen from a shop in Pathakpara, Behala, early on Sunday. Police said the theft was noticed after the shop was opened in the morning. Owner Dilip Kumar Shaw said this was the fifth theft in the shop in the past four years.

Weather toll on flights

Two flights from Calcutta were delayed while another was cancelled on Sunday because of bad weather at the destinations. The delayed flights were of Air India Express (to Dhaka) and IndiGo (to Patna). Air India’s Aizawl flight was cancelled.

Court theft

A TV has been stolen from a room in Bankshall court. The theft was detected on Sunday morning.

Slashed

A rickshaw-puller allegedly slashed a 55-year-old man, whom he owed money, in Salt Lake’s Baisakhi on Sunday evening. Bhagirath Sarkar, who was injured on the left wrist, was taken to Bidhannagar State General Hospital. Ganga Das, the alleged assailant, has been arrested.

Girl missing

An 18-year-old girl from Kankurgachhi has been missing since Friday afternoon. Sayantani Guha’s family lodged a police complaint on Sunday. Police said Sayantani had not scored well in the Class XII test and the school had summoned her father on Friday.

Service

Air India has introduced a direct flight between Calcutta and Shillong. The flight takes off from Calcutta at 11.15am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays. The return flight takes off at 1.35pm.
