Ranchi, Dec. 11: The state police and the Special Operations Group today destroyed a Maoist camp at Kande Orda forest and recovered a huge cache of arms.
They also claimed to have killed a Maoist and injured several others.
The camp was located about 80km from here, under Tamar police station area. The police said the camp may have been set up to disturb tomorrow’s election in Ichagarh and elections in the last phase in Seraikela Kharsawan.
The breakthrough came at 8.30am today after two companies of Central Reserve Police Force and Jaguar rushed to the place. SP (rural), Hemant Toppo, who participated in the operation, said it was a difficult operation as Maoist were at a higher position.
“When we reached the camp, trekking 10km into the jungle, the rebels opened fire. We retaliated. They escaped, leaving explosives, edibles and camp items behind,” he said.
