Kokrajhar, Dec. 8: Suspected Adivasi militants shot and injured the manager of Mornoi tea estate in Kokrajhar district bordering Dhubri, this evening.

Gautam Ghosh, the manager, was shot from point blank range in the chest by a group of four to five militants in his estate bungalow, police said.

The attackers, who covered themselves with blankets, came to Ghosh’s bungalow and had a heated argument with the tea executive before the incident took place.

Ghosh has been shifted to Siliguri for treatment.

“One of the militants pulled out a pistol and fired at Ghosh from point blank range and fled as workers in the bungalow arrived at the scene by then,” a police official said.

The attackers managed to escape under cover of darkness.

The official said that the militants had probably come to abduct the manager but shot at him when he resisted.
