Rhino attacks forester

Siliguri, Dec. 2: The rhino that left Gorumara National Park last month after losing a fight with another over a female rhino and reached Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary damaged a vehicle of the forest department near Mongpong this evening.

An officer of the wildlife squad of Malbazar searching the rhino to tranquillise and deport it to Gorumara suffered minor injuries in the sudden attack by the rhino. The animal was sighted briefly.


Pollution meet

Siliguri: The National Pollution Prevention Day was observed at North Bengal Science Centre at Matigara on Wednesday. A lecture on science, slogan writing, a power point presentation on sound pollution and quiz were organised at the centre. Students of different schools were present .


Bodybuilding

Siliguri: The Darjeeling District Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation will organise North Bengal Classic Open Bodybuilding Championship at Hindi High School here on December 5. Around 130 body builders will participate in the event.


Shot at

Islampur: A CPM supporter was shot at in Islampur’s Patagarh on Wednesday. Maqubul Hussain was injured on his hand and admitted to Islampur Subdivisional Hospital. The incident occurred at a time when subdivisional officer of Islampur Sudip Mitra was at an all-party meeting called to ease political tension in the area. CPM zonal secretary Swapan Guha Neogi blamed Congress workers for the attack. Kanaiyalal Agarwal of the Congress has denied the charge. No one has been arrested.


Strike off

Jaigaon: The PSU, the student wing of the RSP, on Wednesday withdrew the indefinite strike that it had called on Tuesday at Nanigopal Bhattacharya Smriti Mahavidyalaya here over the fee hike in the second and the third years. The strike was called off after college principal Bhaskar Jha said the fees would not be increased.
