Gaurav wins

Noida: Gaurav Pratap Singh clinched his maiden title at the ONGC Masters despite bringing home his worst card of the week, a three-over 75 in the final round Saturday. With his overnight five-shot lead, Gaurav registered his first professional win here after ending with a total of three-under 285, one stroke ahead of Vijay Kumar (71).

Hyderabad: Geet Sethi beat Chuchart Trairattanapradit of Thailand

4-3 in a best of seven encounter in the masters category to enter the quarter finals of ONGC-IBSF World Snooker Championship Saturday. In the men’s event, R. Girish beat Mohammed Shehab of UAE to reach the round of 32.

Bagan academy

Calcutta: Mohun Bagan inaugurated an academy at Jalpaiguri Saturday. Pranab Nandy and Suklyan Ghosh Dastidar will be the coaches. This is Bagan’s second academy as they already have one at Durgapur.

Bengal lose

Calcutta: Bengal were ousted from the semi-finals of the Mir Iqbal Trophy as they were beaten 1-4 by Jharkhand in Jamshedpur. Meanwhile, Bengal lodged a complaint with the authorities after the match alleging Jharkhand of fielding overage players.

Transfer fee

Calcutta: Chirag United have asked for a transfer fee of Rs 3 lakh for defender Dulal Biswas. East Bengal are interested in getting the services of Biswas. However, he will not be able to play in the CFL since he has already played for Chirag in the IFA Shield.
Meanwhile, sports minister Kanti Ganguli at a function Saturday promised to arrange a ground for the Indian Football Association (IFA) within the next 15 days as the association still doesn't have one.

Pandit coach

Mumbai: Former India wicketkeeper Chandrakant Pandit is all set to be the coach of the India squad which would be defending its title in the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup scheduled in New Zealand from January 15-30.

Kallis out

Centurion: South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis has been ruled out of the one-day series against England because of a rib injury, Cricket South Africa said Saturday.
