Guwahati, Nov. 18: Gurukul Grammar School and South Point School posted huge wins in their respective league matches of the 4th Iva Bhattacharyya inter-school (under-14) cricket tournament at Latasil ground here today.
Gurukul humiliated Maharishi Vidya Mandir by eight wickets while South Point humbled Guwahati Public School by 90 runs.
In the morning match, Gurukul elected to field first and bowled out the opponents for 91 in 16.4 overs. In reply, the Gurukul batsmen reached 93 for two in 15.1 overs, thanks to a hurricane 48 (4x7, 6x1) by Man of the Match Manoj Kumar Barman and a steady 20 (4x2) by Kunal Goswami. Anudan Das claimed both the wickets for 10 runs.
Earlier, Rajinder Sharma topscored for Maharishi with 17 (6x2). Jintu Moni Deka of Gurukul scalped three for seven and Syed Nadeem Haque and Hriday Nanda Nath picked up two wickets each.
In the other match, South Point, put to bat first, piled up 185 for two in 20 overs. GPS in reply were all out for 95 in 17.5 overs.
Abhinash Terang topscored for South Point with a quickfire 74 (4x3, 6x1) and Priyankar Chakraborty contributed 45 (4x4). Charles Khaklari of GPS captured both the wickets, conceding 34 runs.
Pankaj Das (22, 4x2, 6x1) and Sonu Kumar (11) were the only GPS batsmen to score in double figures. Rahul Dhar of South Point notched up three for 13. Imran Hussain and Abhinash Terang claimed two wickets each. Terang was named Man of the Match.
Tomorrow, Faculty School will play Modern English School, Kahilipara.
