2 youths kill selves

Islampur, Nov. 17: Two suicides were reported from Chopra and Islampur areas in the past 24 hours.

Usman Ali, 18, committed suicide at his residence at Tunikhari near Chopra yesterday by consuming poison. In the second incident, 20-year-old Dayal Yadav ended his life by hanging at his house in Thukrabari yesterday.

CPM seminar

Siliguri: The Darjeeling district committee of the CPM organised a seminar at Mitra Sammilani Hall here on Tuesday to commemorate the November Revolution in Russia. Jibesh Sarkar, a state committee member of the CPM, was among the speakers at the seminar.

Protest

Siliguri: Residents of Ektiasal, Bhaktinagar and Haidarpara demonstrated in front of Siliguri Municipal Corporation borough office No 5 at Haidarpara on Tuesday. They were protesting against the alleged irregularities in the distribution of ration cards. The residents also ransacked the office’s front gate and later organised a blockade on Sevoke Road for an hour.

Five injured

Islampur: Five persons were injured when a bus rammed into a roadside tree at Madaripur near Islampur on Tuesday. Police said the driver had lost control of the bus that plies on the Raiganj-Siliguri route. The injured persons were admitted to Islampur Subdivisional Hospital.

Felicitation

Siliguri: The north Bengal zonal council of the CII felicitated Gangotri Dutta and Nantu Paul, the mayor and the deputy mayor of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, here on Tuesday evening. A discussion on Siliguri-Sessions Ahead was also held.

Parishad

Jalpaiguri: Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad supporters from the Dooars and the Terai will assemble here on Wednesday and submit a memorandum to the divisional commissioner, alleging that police were indiscriminately arresting their party members.
