Bengal bandhs

Calcutta, Nov. 17: The SUCI has called a 12-hour Bengal bandh on November 24 and the BJP on November 30. The issue is the same — price rise.

Bank murders

Behrampore: The wife of the businessman held in connection with four murders in a bank in Nadia’s Karimpur was arrested today after police found Rs 2.82 lakh at her parents’ home in Murshidabad’s Behrampore. Manashi, 23, has been named as an accomplice in the massacre .

Blast death

Bolpur: Trinamul supporter Sheikh Samsul, 26, was killed and five people were injured when bombs they were allegedly making explo-ded in a village in Suri, Birbhum. The party alleged that CPM activists had attacked its men.

Rural bypolls

Calcutta: Bypolls to 103 gram panchayat, 21 panchayat samiti and five zilla parishad seats will be held on December 20. The last day for filing nominations is Nov. 25.

Duo held

Purulia: Two men with suspected Maoist links have been arrested in Purulia. Police said Kishta Mahato, 45, and Khandu Mahato, 37, have several cases against them.
