Sip story

How to perfect your poison is what The Kenilworth is teaching these days. The Kenilworth Academy of Bar and Management has tied up with Tulleeho, a marketing and consultancy firm for the beverage and hospitality industry, to launch the Kenilworth Tulleeho Bartending Academy. The academy will be starting a five-day Mixology Essentials course for hotel management students, waiters, or even regular people interested in taking up bartending as a career.

On Thursday afternoon a workshop was kicked off by Rohan Jelkie, training manager, Tulleeho. Participants included students and faculty of hotel management schools, and Jelkie had plenty of valuable tips to pass on. “The most versatile drink is vodka. In fact, it is often so tasteless that you could have it with dal and it wouldn’t make any difference except to give you that kick of alcohol! Which is why to add character to my drinks, I prefer white rum,” he said.

No wonder that one of the best drinks the participants made (see box) had white rum at its core.

Apple Cinnamon Mojito

Ingredients

7-8 slices

green apple

10 ml cinnamon syrup

1 tsp brown sugar

60 ml apple juice

60 ml white rum

A dash of lime

Soda

Method

Muddle brown sugar, add green apple and muddle some more in a highball glass. Add cinnamon syrup, fill up glass with ice, apple juice and a dash of lime. Pour white rum and stir to mix it all. Top off with soda and serve with a green apple garnish.
