Campaign on wheels for organ donation

A motor cycle expedition was flagged off on October 22 from the Army Hospital (Referral and Research) to mark the Medical Corps reunion.

The theme of the expedition, which was flagged off by Lt. Gen N. K. Parmar and Senior Col Commandant with the slogan “We Care and We Dare”, was to spread awareness on “organ donation- gift of life”.

During the rally, eight officers of Army Medical Corps visited several medical units in central and north-east India

After travelling through the plains of central India the team, led by Col Soumen Basu, reached the 158 Base Hospital on October 25 at Bengdubi.

The rally was flagged off from the hospital by Brigadier Amulya Mohan, 111 Sub Area Commander, on October 26.

After riding through Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, the team returned to the 158 Base Hospital.

The 19-day expedition ended at the AMC Centre and School in Lucknow on November 9.

Joint Expedition

The Chola Warriors of the Kripan Division, along with officers and cadets from the Royal Bhutan Army and Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT) in Bhutan, undertook a joint adventure expedition.

The programme, which included 254km cycling in Bhutan, West Bengal and Sikkim, ended with white water rafting on the Teesta.

The expedition was flagged off by Maj. Gen. Gayan Bhushan, Commandant, IMTRAT, on October 25.

Addressing the participants and dignitaries present at the flagg off ceremony in Thimphu, Maj. Gen. Bhushan said such adventure activities would go a long way in boosting ties, co-operation, bonding and building a strong affiliation between the two nations. The expedition was flagged in by Maj. Gen. R. K. Rana, the General Officer Commanding the Kripan Division on November 1.

Mela and camp

The Trishakti Corps conducted an Army Mela and an ex-servicemen rally on November 7 on the army grounds at Sevoke Road military station in Salugara, on the outskirts of Siliguri.

Lt. Gen. D. S. Sidhu, GOC, Trishakti Corps, was the chief guest of the event.

He felicitated distinguished World War-II veterans and Veer Naris awarded scholarships to talented children of martyrs and gifted modified scooters to gallant veterans.

There was a display of helicopter, a motorcycle display by the Shwet Ashva team of military police, a skydiving demonstration by army paratroopers, show jumping and trick riding on mules by army horsemen.

There was also a dog show by the Army Dog Unit and traditional martial khukuri dance and mallkhamb display by local army battalions.

Equipment display was an added attraction, where all the latest weapons were exhibited. Children were also treated to joyrides on infantry combat vehicles.

Stalls on banking, insurance, and medical, dental and an eye camp were set up to for the veterans and guests.

The event ended with Beating of Retreat and a firework display.

Approximately 4,000 ex-servicemen, their families, 8,000 local people and school children including NCC cadets attended the programme.
