Amol is an inspiration, says Saikia

Guwahati, Nov. 6: Assam Ranji coach Subhrajit Saikia today advised his wards to draw inspiration from Mumbai recruit Amol Muzumdar after his record-breaking innings at the NF Railway Stadium here against Rajasthan today.

Muzumdar became the highest ever Ranji Trophy run-getter, scoring 25 runs to achieve a career total of 7,639 runs.

In his post-match reaction to the media, Saikia felt the bowling was up to the mark but “there is room for improvement in our batting”.

“Our boys will have to work much harder to improve our batting. They should draw inspiration from Amol,” Saikia said.

Muzumdar, after his feat today, said: “I am happy because I have achieved it in a difficult situation.”

He is one of the three outstation recruits in the team.

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA), busy with the India-Australia ODI preparations, however, could not manage to congratulate the player on the ground.

Asked if he has received a call from his mentor Sachin Tendulkar over the feat (as the latter was on his way to Guwahati), Muzumdar said he was yet to get a call but expected one “by this evening when he reaches here”.
